President's Letter

2014-2015 Season

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.”

-Maya Angelou

Dear Friends,

I think this quote from Maya Angelou eloquently captures the power of music to bring us together and create a sense of community. True to our mission, we are proud to be able to offer our 28th season of free musical performances to the Baltimore community in a beautiful and accessible space.

We offer a distinctive array of contemporary and classical chamber works performed by talented artists and stellar local favorites. Chamber Music by Candlelight, our evening concerts featuring members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, opens the season on September 14th. Our afternoon concerts begin September 28th with a performance by Trio Cavatina, featuring pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute who thrilled our audience with her solo recital in January 2013. Look for four premieres, including one by local composer Jonathan Leshnoff, the Wonderlic Voice Finals, and three post-concert receptions where you can meet and mingle with the musicians. We are also excited to present a first ever for our series on October 12th—the Mana Saxophone Quartet—which offers you a chance to hear different repertoire and a different sound to interpret it.

Our board members, staff, volunteers, and partners at the BSO remain committed to our mission to provide the only free full-year concert series in Baltimore. But, while our concerts are free, there are real costs associated with presenting these performances and we need your support. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help us continue to offer Music for All, Free to All.

We look forward to seeing you at future concerts. In the meantime, we invite you to visit our website, CommunityConcertsAtSecond.org and “Like” us on Facebook for more concert information. Enjoy the music and spread the word—you are our best ambassadors!
