2015-2016 Season

Dear Friends:

Welcome to the 29th season of Community Concerts at Second. On behalf of the governing board and our artists, we are so pleased to be able to offer you 16 free concerts at Second Presbyterian on Saint Paul Street in lovely north Baltimore – truly one of Baltimore’s most exceptional settings in which to enjoy live music. We are proud to be both in and of Baltimore City and hope you will join our community of music lovers.

In keeping with our nearly three decades of music-making, we believe the 2015-16 season will not only be one to cherish but also one that will challenge you. We launch the season with a Chamber Music by Candlelight concert and post-concert reception on September 20th, featuring members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performing works by Tann, Ginastera, and Beethoven. On September 27th, renowned pianist and local favorite Boris Slutsky will be joined by two fellow international competition laureates, violinist Dmitri Berlinsky and cellist Suren Bagratuni.

The season continues with wonderful and provocative chamber music in the evenings and a unique vocal recital in October. We then welcome Duo Baldo in November, as they delight us with a witty and sophisticated look at classical music. Check them out on YouTube – they are sure to tickle your fancy.  The afternoon concerts conclude on May 22nd with New York-based pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine. Finally, we welcome the start of summer with our final Chamber Music by Candlelight concert of the season on June 12th with a charming work by César Franck, as well as a Beethoven string quartet. What could be better than a season bookended by Beethoven? We invite you to visit our website and “Like” us on Facebook for more concert information.

As always, we remain firmly committed to providing exceptional music, free of charge to our audiences. Nonetheless, we incur significant expense to bring these high quality performances to our community year in and year out. To continue, we need your support – we can’t do it without you! I ask you to think about what music means to your life and those around you. Now more than ever, it is important that we support those things that bring us together.  Please consider a gift to Community Concerts at Second. It’s tax deductible and will enable us to continue to offer “Music for All, Free to All” for a long time to come.

We look forward to seeing you at our concerts and welcome your feedback and support. Please give generously and spread the word about our concerts. Together we can continue to make beautiful music for Baltimore!
