President's Letter

2016-2017 Season

Dear Friends:

On behalf of the governing board and our partners at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, I am pleased to welcome you to the 30th season of Community Concerts at Second, or as some of our fans think of us: “Music for All.” Whether you know us as “CC@2nd” or “Music for All,” what matters is that you know our mission is to bring you another season of outstanding music, performed by world-class musicians in an ideal setting – and as always, free to all! Think of it: 30 seasons of free concerts for our community of music lovers here in Baltimore.

What a season it promises to be: eight wonderful candlelight concerts featuring players from the BSO; seven outstanding afternoon concerts including Marina Piccinini & the Beijing Guitar Duo, and Netanel Draiblate & Lura Johnson, as well as our treasured Wonderlic Recital, this year featuring local rising star vocalists. Please plan to join us for two post-concert receptions on September 25th and May 21st, made possible thanks to the generosity of our friends at the BSO. These lively gatherings are a great opportunity to meet the evening’s BSO performers and learn more about us from our governing board members.

As we embark on our 30th season, we need your support. We have never sold tickets or charged concert admission. We believe it is important that everyone has access to truly great, live music on a regular basis. There is just something so special about sharing, experiencing, and enjoying live music in the company of others. In our ever-changing world, the need for community is a constant, and music has always been a way to bring people together.

We manage with a very small staff and engaged and an energetic board – many of whom you have met or seen over the years, greeting at the door, providing directions, managing the stage door, or scrambling during stage changes. We are “hands on” music lovers, but we can’t do it alone. Most of our funding comes from the generosity of individual donors, who have been with us for decades. We are grateful for their steadfast commitment! Today I ask you to please consider joining us and make a gift to Community Concerts at Second. Together we can continue to make beautiful music for Baltimore.

Sincerely,
